The Sanctuary Choir and instrumentalists present Bach Cantata 150, Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich (For Thee, O Lord, I Long) during worship. The text comes from Psalm 25, and the accompaniment is a simple pair of violins, bassoon, and organ. One of Bach’s earliest cantatas, he wrote it in Arnstadt between 1704 and 1707. As with most of his works, the score’s musical features of scales, chromaticism, hemiolas, tempo changes, an acrostic in the text, and more contribute to a moving auditory experience.
