First Friday

First Friday is a kids’ night out program, designed to give parents an evening to themselves. Volunteers provide creative and exciting entertainment for the children in a safe and fun atmosphere at the church. Dinner is provided for children and helpers. First Friday is for children aged six months through 12 years. All children in our community are welcome, whether or not their families attend Little River UCC. Tell your friends and family!

Youth Summer Mission Experiences

Mission trips are an opportunity for youth to actively practice their faith, join in fellowship with one another, gain independence and responsibility, and learn an appreciation of communities different from their own.

The PYF youth share in Potomac Youth Senior High Summer Mission Experiences, partnering with youth from the 36 churches in the Potomac Association of the United Church of Christ. Since 2010, the Potomac Youth have organized a “Half-House Sponsorship” annually with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity in Franklin, West Virginia. The teams have done finishing work on homes, including drywall, patching, painting, flooring, and landscaping.

In 2016, youth from Little River UCC and UCC churches nation wide met at the Walt Disney World Coronado Springs Resort for the 2016 National Youth Event. The National Youth Event is a spirited quadrennial event centered on faith, leadership, service and social justice. Attended by 4,000 youths, it is celebrated as the largest denominational gathering for the UCC, where they asked participants to Believe - a charge, responsibility, and call to action to have the confidence that what we believe will actually happen and trust in the assurance of things we cannot see.

Our 2018 summer mission experience will be at Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS! All Little River UCC college students and youth who will be at least 14 years old by the time of our July 15-21, 2018 trip are invited to come!

Back Bay Mission is a powerful ministry dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods, promoting social justice, and is a treasure of the United Church of Christ. Much of their work involves housing rehabilitation, education, and enrichment programs in an area that is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
