Sip n Chat Book Social Report

While gearing up for June's online restart of the Little River Book Group, an informal 'Sip n Chat' Book Social was held on May 17. Facilitated by Kathleen Styles, the group of eleven Little River participants exchanged novel experiences based upon several prompts. The catch-up discussion explored current and past reads ranging from Another Name for Slavery, Lab Girl, A Pocketful of Dreams, Station 11, and White Fragility to Turtles All The Way Down, among others. Readers also shared ways they are adapting their reading habits, such as joining new online book clubs, using e-books for the first time and purchasing 'mystery boxes' of books online to support Independent bookstores. It's clear that Little River book lovers are finding creative diversion, intellectual stimulation and community through books during these isolating times. The next Book Group will be held virtually on Saturday, June 13 at 8:00pm when Pam Binninger and Mary Beth Ciarcia co-lead discussion of Where the Crawdads Sing. Until then, “Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world” - Voltaire.
